In my last post, I wondered if there was a connection with Edna Eddy's uncle Theodore Eddy and Mark Twain. Twain (nee Samuel Clemmons) and Theodore were both born the same year; they both grew up in Hannbal Missouri (at the time, circa 1860, population 1100).
Wow, the wonders of Google. Twain wrote of Theodore Eddy in his autobiography. Funny passage! He talks about how Theodore could "work his ears like a horse".
I know a descendent who has ears "like a horse" but I won't say who it is!!

Is it me? Nay I say!
ReplyDeleteHi - I'm wondering what he meant by moving his ears like a horse does - the only thing I can think of is that (I think) a horse can move his ears independently - say, one forward and one backward. Now, if this fella could do that, he is rarely talented! My dad could wiggle his ears on command, but they pretty much stayed where they belonged on his head when he did. And, I don't think you've told me that you got a copy of that book. We'll talk about it when I see you.
ReplyDeleteI remember my dad (Jack) telling me that Granddad (Henry T Chapman) could wiggle his ears without using his hands. I never saw him do it though...
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan!

Mark
